TVET students in Accra have demonstrated growing technical capacity by assembling a fully functional bicycle locally, marking a significant step in Ghana’s push toward skills-based industrial development.
The students, drawn from the Applied Technology Institute at East Legon, executed the project in collaboration with Trans-Sahara Industries, showcasing practical expertise and innovation aligned with industry needs.
The initiative highlights the shift within Ghana’s TVET sector toward hands-on, competency-based training, with a stronger focus on producing industry-ready graduates.
Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, reaffirmed government’s commitment to advancing technical and vocational education through investments in infrastructure, curriculum reforms, and stronger industry partnerships.
He made the remarks while receiving a delegation led by TVET Service Director-General, Eric Kofi Adzore, who presented the bicycle as evidence of progress in the sector.
The Minister emphasised that such practical achievements reinforce TVET’s role in job creation, entrepreneurship, and national development.
Stakeholders have welcomed the development and are calling for expanded support to scale similar initiatives nationwide, as Ghana positions TVET as a viable and competitive career pathway.
