In order to fully ascertain the kilometers of road construction done during the Akufo-Addo administration, the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has vowed to authorize an audit into work done should he take office next year.
The former president who recently wrapped up a campaign tour of the Bono Region expressed wonder about the claim, questioning why every chief he visited singled out poor road networks as the topmost issue in their community.
He stated that the next NDC government under his leadership would audit “the new roads to find out where the money that has been paid for 12,000 kilometers of roads” has gone.
In a sod-cutting ceremony for the dualization of the Anwiankwanta-Ahenema Kokoben road in July, President Akufo-Addo asserted that his government had seen to the construction of over 12,800 kilometers of roads.
Former President Maham, nonetheless, explained the several kilometers of roads constructed by the government should be clear for all to see while they traveled the country, however, that was not the case.
“Everywhere I go, every traditional leader who has spoken, has complained about the poor networks. And I’m saying that the NPP say under Kufuor they did 3,000 kilometers of road. In NDC’s time, they say we did 4,700 kilometers of road and they alone have done 12,000 kilometers of road. And the question I’m asking is: Where are those roads?” the ex-president openly enquired.
Mr. Mahama jested the 12,000 kilometers of roads constructed might have been done in President Akufo-Addo’s hometown and he had not been there to see them.
