Former Brong Ahafo Regional Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Michael Osei Boateng, has questioned the feasibility of the proposed 24-hour economy policy, arguing that it is not practically workable under current conditions.
Speaking on The Verdict on Starr 103.5 FM on Tuesday, April 29, 2026, he said there has been limited clarity on the implementation of the policy, adding that expectations surrounding it may not reflect reality once the full framework is released.
“So far, from last year to now, what have they done about that 24-hour economy?” he asked.
Mr. Boateng expressed doubt that the policy could significantly reduce unemployment, particularly among the youth, suggesting that the concept may be overstated in political discussions.
“Do you think the 24-hour economy policy is going to employ more than one million youth in this country?” he questioned, further arguing that the structure of the policy, as currently understood, would place unrealistic demands on existing businesses and market operators.

“That we are going to beg the market women for them to employ two additional people for one job so that they will run 24 hours? Do you think it will work?” he added.
Mr. Boateng maintained that while the policy is widely referenced within political circles, its practical implementation remains questionable.
