How to be a great Customer Service Assistant

Being a Customer Service Assistant or Administrative Support Clerk is actually a lot of work. But it also gives you the excuse to dress professionally when you usually don’t and it’s an awesome job.

I work as a Customer Service Assistant and have different experiences working in a professional field. I love being a customer service assistant. I don’t plan on staying with that job forever but it’s a good summer job. So I would suggest looking for a job as a customer service assistant, it’s not only pretty easy, but you also get to meet new people and increase communication skills.

Here are some tips on how to be a great Customer Service Assistant or Administrative Support Clerk and what you learn from working this job.

1. You get to interact with different people.

2. You sit, let people in, and you offer them water or coffee if your work does that

3. When the client has arrived you welcome them, ask them to wait while you go get the employer.

4. You get to dress professionally which is where Pinterest comes in because you get inspired to create a great outfit.

5. You have to have the mind set to do this job! If you just sit there and don’t interact with the customers or do whats necessary to do well in your job then you’re not doing your job.

6. Go interact with your coworkers because you’re the first person a client is going to see and you’re going to have to let your coworkers know they are there. You’re going to have to know who is who.

7. Being a receptionist, you get to learn social skills by communicating with different people.

8. When you don’t have much to do you should read a book. It will make you look productive and not lazy by just being on social media.

9. Just always look your best. Please don’t come in wearing a t-shirt with a cartoon on it or a funny saying. I mean, if the place you work at is totally okay with that then go for it!

10. Reach out the place. I mean you’re going to be working there and walking around so on your first day find out all you can about that place. Where do they eat? Where are the bathrooms? What does everyone do as a part of their job?

11. You should always be on top of things. If you’re given a specific amount of work, separate it into to do piles for each day. This way you won’t get everything done in one day and have nothing to do the rest of the week. You work little by little but you’re getting the work done.

12. Know what you need to do for your boss. Maybe you have to get the mail every day so you are expected to do that as a part of your job.
You’re going to need coffee! It’s too early in the morning to really process much so you’re going to need that pick me up. And if you don’t bring coffee, then tea.

13. Answer the phone. You need to sound happy and willing to answer any of the customer questions. It’s your job remember. If you don’t know the answer to a question kindly let the customer know that you will place them on hold to get an answer for them. This will let them know that you care and are trying to help out. So now, go figure out the answer, thank the customer for waiting and help them out.

You’re going to get the urge to spin around in your chair especially if there aren’t any customers and there isn’t much to do. Try not to do that. If you do, just don’t do it often.
