Twenty-two Ghanaians have been deported from Saudi Arabia for staying there illegally, the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has revealed.
The deported migrants aged between 21 and 38 included 21 females and a male who are mostly JHS and SHS leavers have been in Saudi Arabia since 2015.
According to them, they were detained at a Deportation Centre in Saudi Arabia close to four months before their onward deportation to Ghana.
The GIS made this known in a press release signed by its Kotoka International Airport PRO ASI Barbara Sam.
Narrating their ordeal, the release read “some of the ladies said their passports were seized by their hosts upon arrival , claiming they owned it because they paid for it sometimes made to over work 24 hours, accused wrongly for crime they did not commit , assaulted, abused sexually and fed once a day with bread resulting in some complaining of severe stomach pains.”
These victims and many others have been lured into migrating to other countries with the promise of good pay or greener pastures following the high rate of unemployment.
