Bring back Hutton Mensah as MD – ECG workers plead

Some concerned workers of the Electricity company of Ghana (ECG) are calling on government to consider reappointing the company’s former Managing Director, Rev. Ing.William Hutton Mensah to occupy the topmost position of the company .

The workers call is coming at a time when the current MD, Ing Samuel Boakye Appiah’s two-year contract term after his retirement comes to an end.

The concerned workers who spoke to Journalists on condition of anonymity said their decision to call for reinstatement of Ing.Hutton Mensah is his competence and commitment in the managing power distribution sector.

Rev. Ing. William Hutton-Mensah, former Managing Director of ECG was relieved of his position in 2014 by President John Dramani Mahama in a statement signed by then Chief of Staff, Prosper Bani.

His sacking came in the wake of an intense load shedding exercise across the country which left households and companies without electricity for days.

But according to the workers, Rev. Ing. William Hutton Mensah, apart from his competence, is an affable and dissenting leader whose actions spur staff to do more. The workers say he also had welfare of staff at heart.

They therefore want President Akufo Addo to reappoint him now that its management has reverted to the state after the botched privatization.

Rev.William Hutton-Mensah has over 30 years of experience in Electrical Engineering in the Energy sector in Ghana. William Hutton-Mensah was appointed Ag. Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana on February 03, 2012 following the inauguration of the Board of Directors of the company.

Prior to his appointment, Mr Hutton-Mensah was a Director in charge of Network Projects of the company. He is an accomplished manager with over twelve (12) years excellent track record.

He has had about twenty-seven (27) years profound experience in Electrical Engineering in the Energy Sector.

Mr Hutton-Mensah has held various portfolios in the Electricity Company of Ghana including, Regional General Manager in Volta, Accra East and Ashanti regions.

He was also the regional engineer, projects engineer and maintenance engineer in Tema and Western regions.

Mr Hutton-Mensah holds an Executive Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

He has undertaken various overseas training in the management of electric power systems (Sweden), electric power development planning (Japan), distribution system technology and practice (Ireland) and power systems and distribution management (India) among others.
