Let’s lift the industry beyond Shatta and Stonebwoy – Charterhouse

CEO of Charterhouse, organisers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), Mrs Theresa Ayoade has charged the media and music fanatics to endeavour to lift the Ghanaian music industry beyond rival dancehall heavyweights Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.

This charge comes a year after chaos engulfed the 2019 VGMA’s when dancehall artiste Stonebwoy pulled a gun on stage.

The pandemonium erupted after Shatta Wale stormed the stage while Stonebwoy was receiving his award for emerging the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the year.

The duo have since made peace.

Mrs Ayoade made the call during a media engagement last week to deliberate on how to make this year’s edition better. She was answering a question posed by one of the journalists present as to whether the duo would feature in this year’s event, following their indefinite ban.

She said “we are relying on you to not keep hammering on this matter. All the decisions that were taken, were taken in the interest of maintaining the peace and preserving the industry and the scheme.”

She went on “we really count on your support in that area, and let’s lift the industry beyond these two artistes.”

On whether the artistes will feature in this year’s show she said, “we haven’t taken a decision on that yet because that decision was taken by the last board and a new board has been reconstituted for this year and we are yet to meet as a new board.”

“But before we meet we wanted to do this session so we could go back to the table with all the insights and then we can now come out with decisions on the way forward,” she added.

Mrs Ayoade described last year’s incident as “ a terrible climax to all the efforts that we had put in.”
