President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured religious institutions and by extension the people of Ghana that his administration will do all within its power to preserve religious tolerance in the country.

Addressing the President of the General Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Pastor Ted Wilson, when he paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House, President Akufo-Addo said the country’s religious tolerance record will be guarded by his administration jealously.

“We are a country where even though the overwhelming majority are Christians, we have a significant Muslim population and there are still a few who are committed to the old gods. They make up the population and we live here in harmony and in tolerance of each other. It is one of the distinctive features of our country and it is one that we want to preserve” President Akufo-Addo stated. “We will continue to bond together, I count on your support, Ghana counts on your support”.

Pastor Ted Wilson

Pastor Ted Wilson, in his remarks, noted that the Seventh Day Adventist Church can boast of some 22 million baptized members worldwide and Ghana is a very important part of the composition of the church. He indicated that the church will continue to play a vital role in the socio-economic development of Ghana. Pastor Wilson before leaving the Presidency said a word of prayer for the President for God to bring harmony, peace and a good process for democracy to continue in a wonderful way in Ghana.

Quoting from the old testament book of the Bible, Micah 6:8, which says “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God”, Pastor Wilson prayed asking God to help the President and the Vice President to do justly to the people of Ghana, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God. He also prayed for a peaceful election 2020.

Seventh-day Adventist Church

The Seventh-day Adventist Church is a Protestant Christian denomination which is distinguished by its observance of Saturday, the seventh day of the week in Christian and Jewish calendars, as the Sabbath, and its emphasis on the imminent Second Coming of Jesus Christ. The Seventh-day Adventist Church has a significant presence in Ghana with over 356,599 members as of June 30, 2018. The Seventh-day Adventist Church operates 4 secondary schools in Ghana. There is also one school of higher education named Valley View University.
