I was surprised some NPP Elders didn’t intervene in my suspension – Kwabena Agyepong

A former General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kwabena Agyepong has berated some NPP Elders for their refusal to intervene when his woes with the party began in 2015.

He said it was his expectation that the Elders with whom he had a working relationship would have stepped in to intercede at the time he was being suspended.

“I’m just saying this just to clarify the situation and let people appreciate the kind of treatment that I’ve been subjected to by a party that I have dedicated my youth to serve and to serve well for the last 30 or so years and I think at the point, I was surprised certain elders of this party, whom I’ve worked with from Adu Boahene’s time, did not [intervene],” he told Accra-based Class Fm on Monday.

Reflecting on his journey with the ruling party, Mr Agyepong said: “I love this party, I’ve always given to this party… we helped built this structure with our hands, we will not destroy it.”

The engineer cum politician was suspended by the disciplinary committee in the lead up to the 2016 elections over acts the party deemed inimical to their electoral fortune.

He, along with the party’s national chairman Paul Afoko and Sammy Crabbe remained suspended indefinitely even after the party won the 2016 elections against the NDC.

In 2021, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), lifted the suspension on its former General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong.
