TikTok launches global discovery hub

TikTok has launched a dedicated search tool for artists to showcase their new songs and for fans to discover new tracks.

Dubbed, #NewMusic Hub, the innovation will feature new music content from artists on TikTok in one place, making music discovery easier for fans, including early previews, music that’s still in development, and newly-released tracks from both new and established artists.

Since its launch in September 2016, the platform has proven to be a major music discovery avenue, fuelling the international popularity of African artists such as CKay, Rema, Camidoh, and Black Sherif, whose songs have inspired millions of video creations by TikTok users.

“TikTok is already a destination for artists who want to preview their newest works and for music fans looking to discover new music, and this new feature will give artists a new way to connect with our global community,” the company’s global head of music content and partnerships, Paul Hourican, said. “The latest innovation presents an exciting opportunity to inspire artist creativity, spark connections, and foster a diverse musical landscape that embraces the unique talents and passions of artists and fans worldwide.”

To celebrate the launch of #NewMusic(link is external), TikTok has partnered with global stars including The Jonas Brothers, Miguel and Niall Horan, who use the platform to preview and release new music while connecting with the TikTok community.

“It has been so cool to see people around the world making content with our music,” The Jonas Brothers said. “TikTok is allowing us to connect with our fans and reach new ones in an exciting way.”

Since the start of the year, TikTok has actively sought partnerships with numerous musicians, aiming to offer them a means of distributing their music via ByteDance’s recently launched platform SoundOn, which not only guarantees artists extensive authority over their music but also enables direct distribution to TikTok and various streaming platforms. Moreover, musicians can enjoy complete ownership of their works and receive royalties directly, while also benefiting from the promotional tools provided by SoundOn.

Meanwhile, from July 1, TikTok will be banned on devices in Florida schools, following Governor Ron DeSantis signing of a bill into law which targets applications from “foreign countries of concern,” on government and educational institution devices. The legislation adds to the challenges faced by TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, in keeping the app operational in the US.
