Akufo-Addo condemns NDC supporters for brandishing cutlasess at Mahama’s office

President Akufo-Addo has strongly criticized the actions of members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) brandishing machetes around the office premises of NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

Last Thursday, the youth wing of NDC stormed the Cantonments office of the former President, armed and seemingly prepared for a confrontation with the pro-government political group, FixingTheCountry under the guise of clean up exercise.

The fixing the country group, led by Ernest Owusu Bempah, had previously issued a notice to the Police to picket at the former President’s office over the Airbus scandal.

However, the anticipated confrontation did not materialize due to a directive from the National Security Ministry.

The picketing, known as #ChaseJMKronoAirbus, was initially rescheduled from Thursday, November 16, to Thursday, November 23, 2023, but was later canceled.

Addressing the valedictory service of Rt. Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, the 18th Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Victory Congregation in Accra, President Akufo Addo expressed disapproval of the action of the NDC youth.

“It is my honest hope that the machetes and weapons brandished last week at the residence of the NDC’s presidential candidate, the former president John Mahama are not signs of things to come in the run-up of the 2024 elections elections”

“If it is, I can assure them that they will find no success with them. I want to state for the record that under my watch, no person or group of persons no matter their political colouration will destabilise our country nor destroy the peace that all of us are enjoying. It will not happen.”

President Akufo Addo assured that such behavior will find no place in the upcoming December 2024 elections.

He emphasized his commitment to maintaining peace during the electoral process and underscored that any attempt to disrupt stability will not succeed.

The President also reiterated his government’s efforts to restoring the country’s economic fortunes.

He said the economy is bouncing back as government has turned the corner with workable solutions to the economic challenges encountered during his second term in office.

“I know times have been hard, but it is clear that our economy is rebounding back, and we are turning back the corner to growth and development,” assured President Akufo-Addo.
