A governance analyst, Dr. Frederick Oduro has urged the Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong to report the Minister of Works and Housing, Francis Asenso Boakye to the state investigative agencies on the corruption allegation against the Minister.
The former New Patriotic Party flag bearer aspirant addressing party delegates at Bantama in the Ashanti region where his brother is contesting the party’s primaries has alleged that Mr. Asenso Boakye has been involved in some dubious sale of state houses.
However, the Ministry of Works and Housing has refuted such claims by the Assin Central lawmaker.
“The Ministry strongly refutes the allegation and states that there has been no such sale of the property. The facts are that the current development taking place at the official residence of the late Justice Marful-Sau forms part of the Government Redevelopment Programme (GRP).
“For the avoidance of doubt, the said land has not been sold as it is mischievously been alleged and remains the property of the State. The GRP is rather a cost-effective undertaking which ultimately gives optimal benefit and ensures efficient use of government lands,” the Public Relations Unit explained.
Speaking on Starr Midday News with Naa Dedei Tettey, the governance analyst said if the Assin Central MP is sure of his allegations the best he can do is put it out.
“For me unless there is some evidence put forward to indicate there is some level of culpability I don’t think I will want to take it absolutely as truth. If Mr. Agyapong has some evidence it’s better he puts it in the public domain. Even if it holds some element of truth then he can take it seriously,” Mr. Oduro stated.
According to him, Mr. Agyapong’s brother who is contesting is working hard and the Works and Housing Minister is having the contest tough already.
He added that Bantama constituency has a history of hardly retaining a lawmaker for the third term.
“It looks like the constituency has got a knack for changing their members of parliament through the parliamentary primaries. So that alone should be a warning to Mr. Asenso not to rest on his oars,” Dr. Oduro advised.
