A female delegate who attempted impersonating a valid voter in the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Primaries in the Kwadaso Constituency is in the grips of the police.
GHONE TV’s Isaac Bediako Justice reports that she allegedly walked in with the identity card of another individual ostensibly to cast her vote.
Agents of the candidates at the voting centre handed her over to the police after a near chaotic scene triggered by a contest on her identity.
Confirming the disturbances, a candidate and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Middle Belt Development Authority Vincent Frimpong Many explained that the tension at the voting centre had been aggravated by the huge numbers of party supporters who had come to observe the process.
“It’s a lady who tried to impersonate someone. They picked her up and the police are dealing with it,” he explained.
“A lot of people came here to observe the process and that is what has made this place a bit chaotic,” he added.
Voter Inducement
Delegates who spoke to reporters admitted receiving television sets and GHc 3000 each from Vincent Frimpong Manu ahead of the elections.
On the ground, some vehicles were parked with indications they were stalked with television sets to be delivered to some delegates as rewards for voting for Mr Vincent Frimpong Manu.
A live band session that was held to entertain the delegates a night earlier was also rumoured to have been funded by Mr. Frimpong Manu.
The candidate however refuted the allegations insisting that the claims could be fabricated by the incumbent to discredit him.
‘’I heard Kinsley Nyarko camp people elsewhere. We have provided some breakfast and T&T for those who came from far and near. I haven’t given them any television sets,’’ he rebuffed.
Electoral Chances
Vincent Frimpong Manu is poised to unseat the first term Member of Parliament Professor Kingsley Nyarko who four years ago, unseated another first term member of parliament in the person of Dr. S.K. Nuamah.
He has argued over his campaigning period that he has what it takes to better support the NPP achieve its ‘’breaking the eight’’ agenda.
His contender Prof. Kingsley Nyarko contested and won the seat after serving as a former director of the pro NPP Dankwah institute and a former director of the National Accreditation Board.
