The Executive Director of the Youth Opportunity and Transformation in Africa (YOTA), Emmanuel Edudzie, has called on the government to integrate youth policies across all sectors to address gaps in the educational system. He made this statement at the launch of the 2024 Ghana Youth Barometer report in Accra.
The report revealed mixed reactions among the youth, regarding the Ghanaian educational system.
While 42.9% of respondents believed the system was retrogressing, 40.3% agreed and 13.6% strongly agreed that the system prepares youth for the future.
Mr Edudzie emphasized the need to streamline all youth policies with education to address the gaps.
“Streamlining all youth policies with education is crucial to address the gaps in the educational system”, he said.
Research lead Dr. Thomas Yeboah expressed concern over the high percentage of youth seeking to travel abroad, with over 90% of respondents indicating their desire to leave the country.
“This trend is alarming and requires immediate attention from policymakers”, he added.
The 2024 Ghana Youth Barometer report by YOTA recommends five key considerations for the government, including: Equitable access to education, Formation of a National Youth Federation and Strengthening the Youth Parliament.
