Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has pledged to ensure that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) remains focused on the national interest, emphasising the party’s significant majority in Parliament.
With over 180 seats, the NDC holds a historic majority, making the 9th Parliament a pivotal challenge in Ghana’s political landscape.
Speaking to journalists after President John Dramani Mahama’s inauguration on Tuesday, January 7, Bagbin acknowledged the weight of the NDC’s dominance in Parliament, noting that while it presents an opportunity, it also comes with its own set of challenges.
He stressed that the collective interests of all Ghanaians—regardless of political affiliation, whether NDC, NPP, PNC, or independent—should take precedence.
He said, “I never take anything for granted because the large numbers we have coming from the NDC is also a challenge, and I should be able to get them to focus more on national interests.
“The collective interests of all Ghanaians, whether you are NDC, NPP, PNC, or independent, that is what matters to me, and that will be a challenge.
