Rising Ghanaian musician La-kweku Shadrack, popularly known as Odeku La, is making waves in the music industry with his latest single, “Woa,” which was officially released on March 12.
As the last born of seven siblings and a proud Guan from Anum-Boso in the Eastern Region, Odeku La’s musical journey is deeply rooted in both family and heritage.
Music runs in his blood literally. Legendary highlife musician Sloopy Mike Gyamfi is his uncle, and growing up around such an influence, Odeku La saw it as his duty to continue the legacy.
“Looking at the impact he made in the Ghanaian music industry and my own passion for music, I knew I was on the right path,” he shared.
His stage name, Odeku La, reflects his identity. “‘Odeku’ means a male born on Wednesday, and ‘La’ is my surname. I chose this name to proudly represent my Guan heritage from Anum-Boso,” he explained.
The title of his latest single, “Woa,” translates to “You” in English. Through the song, Odeku La delivers a strong message about love and commitment in relationships. “I want to remind people to be content with whoever they are with whether things are good or bad. Still, choose that one person, because that’s what love is about. Remember, it rains everywhere, but nowhere is cool,” he said.
“Woa” was expertly produced by Nawttyboi and SpankyBeatz, bringing together a refined blend of classic and contemporary highlife sounds.
Growing up, highlife music was a significant part of Odekula’s life. He now blends the old-school highlife sounds with a modern touch, creating a unique fusion that resonates with both older and younger audiences. “What you’re enjoying now is a result of that mix,” he said.
With his talent, passion, and a strong sense of heritage, Odeku La is set to make a mark in the Ghanaian music industry, keeping the highlife genre alive while paving his own way.
