The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the tragic death of General Constable John Kwabena Dogbey, who lost his life while on duty at Assin Domeabra in the Central Region on April 2, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Central North Regional Police Headquarters, Constable Dogbey was part of the Anti-Galamsey Taskforce deployed to combat illegal mining activities in the area. Preliminary findings indicate that he slipped and fell into the Offin River while dismantling a Chanfan machine used by illegal miners.
Rescue efforts were immediately initiated, and with the assistance of divers, Constable Dogbey was found hours later. He was rushed to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Foso, where he was pronounced dead by medical officers. His body has since been transferred to the hospital’s mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The police administration has assured that they are in contact with Constable Dogbey’s family to provide the necessary support during this difficult time.
In the course of the operation, the task force successfully dismantled one Chanfan machine and took custody of two pumping machines, two excavator batteries, and three excavator keys along with their chassis numbers.
The Ghana Police Service expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their colleague, with ASP Mr. Francis Onyina of the Public Affairs Directorate stating, “May the soul of our departed colleague rest in perfect peace.”
