The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, supported by the Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) led by Regional Chairman Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, is steadily overseeing seamless confirmations of President John Mahama’s nominees to the positions of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives in the region .

The confirmation exercises, which began on Monday, have so far seen the successful one-touch endorsement of 10 nominees. In many of the assemblies, presiding members were also elected.

On Thursday, May 9, three more nominees were confirmed.

Solomon Kusi Brako, the youngest nominee in the region was confirmed as MCE for Birim Central with 25 out of 27 valid votes cast.

Taaju Rahim was also confirmed as DCE for Birim South with 93.75% of the votes.

The President’s nominee for the position of District Chief Executive(DCE) for Achiase, Samuel Owusu Brako, also received overwhelming endorsement with 100% votes.

Earlier on Wednesday, the nominee for Atiwa East District, Ernest Owusu Ntim secured a 100 percent endorsement from the Assembly Members.

At Atiwa West, Johnson Amo, also secured a 100 percent approval through a secret ballot after an initial decision by the Assembly members to confirm him by popular acclamation was overturned by a judge present at the meeting.

In Kwaebibirem Municipality, Emmanuel Kofi Nti, popularly known as Teacher Nti, was also overwhelmingly endorsed by the Assembly Members. Out of 57 total votes cast, he secured 55 Yes votes, representing 96.5%, with just two No votes.

Meanwhile, at the Denkyembour District Assembly, nominee Hon. Ahmed Umar alias Tutu was also confirmed with a 100 percent unanimous vote from Assembly Members.

Nominees for Kwahu South, Kwahu East, and Nkawkaw had earlier secured approvals on previous days.

Elections are being supervised by the Electoral Commission.

Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, in her speeches reiterated the government’s commitment to its Reset Agenda, stressing that it begins with competent leadership at the local assembly level.

She urged Assembly Members to continue giving President Mahama’s nominees the needed support to drive development at the grassroots.
