A sudden overflow of River Alabo in Frankadua, a community within the Asuogyaman District in the Eastern Region has left at least 38 people displaced and 21 households affected after waters breached the riverbanks around midnight on Monday, June 16, 2025.

According to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) ,the incident occurred without any preceding rainfall on the day of the flooding or the day before, leaving residents both surprised and alarmed.

Some community members recounted a similar flooding incident over four decades ago, describing this event as unprecedented in recent memory.

Evacuations were swiftly carried out, with displaced residents being temporarily accommodated at the Baptist Church in Frankadua, which has been designated as an emergency shelter.

In the aftermath, the Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman,Thomas Ampem Nyarko accompanied by the Deputy National Director of NADMO Teddy Saforo, and the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asuogyaman, Hon. Godwin Bobobee visited the affected areas alongside officials from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to conduct an initial assessment.

The Asuogyaman District Assembly, incollaboration with NADMO, the Ghana Health Service, and the office of the Member of Parliament and other key agencies, is actively coordinating relief efforts.

The affected residents are being provided with essentials including food, bedding, and medical care as authorities work to stabilize the situation.

According to David Sosu Brown, District Director of NADMO, long-term interventions are also being considered to address the root causes of the flooding and reduce the risk of future occurrences.

Residents in surrounding communities have been advised to remain vigilant and report any unusual rise in water levels to local authorities.
