NPP Primaries: Kennedy Agyapong’s camp unfazed by alleged favouritism — Palgrave

Former Government Spokesperson on Governance and Security, Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, says the Kennedy Agyapong camp is unbothered by claims that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) scheduled presidential primaries is to favour a particular candidate.

Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Monday, June 23, Dr. Boakye-Danquah dismissed the allegations, insisting that Kennedy Agyapong’s camp is confident of victory regardless of the timing of the primaries.

“To be fair, we are not concerned about the favouritism of any particular candidate. We are very confident that even if the flagbearership is done in December, we would emerge the successful victors. Even you start from the grassroots all the way to the top, we still remain the victorious leaders. And even if you do from the left to the right or the right to the left, the grassroots are speaking. The party belongs to the grassroots. It belongs to the people who want to be able to emerge as victors in the 2020 election. And so we are not concerned that it’s favouritism of any particular candidate.”

Dr. Boakye-Danquah also defended Kennedy Agyapong’s call for the party to resolve its internal issues before conducting the primaries, describing it as a necessary step to secure the NPP’s future.

“We are speaking as a result of this, because of the future of the political party. Because today is a conversation between the people that are pulling on their head to become flagbearers of the party, which is Kennedy, which is Bawumia, which is Bryan, Adutwum and a lot of people that are coming up,” he stated. “But tomorrow it could be any other person. So these conversations are critical because of the future of the political party.”

He further emphasised that the real power lies with the party’s grassroots, polling station executives, and delegates, reiterating their confidence in securing victory for their candidate irrespective of any perceived bias in the process.

Dr. Boakye-Danquah’s comments follow concerns from sections of the party suggesting that the decision to hold the primaries on Saturday, January 31, 2026, is a calculated move to protect the interests of certain candidates and the current national executives.

The date for the primaries was announced at a National Executive Committee and National Council meeting held on Tuesday, June 17.
