Government has released GHS462 million in allowances to more than 120,000 nursing trainees across the country, marking the fulfilment of a key campaign promise by President John Dramani Mahama.
The payment, which covers six months’ worth of allowances, began on Wednesday, July 16, and will continue through to next Friday, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health.
The initiative forms part of a broader strategy by the government to strengthen the healthcare sector through targeted support for human resource development.
It also aligns with ongoing reforms aimed at improving access to quality health training and motivating health professionals in the making.
“The Ministry views this development as a significant step in improving the welfare of nursing trainees and sustaining the motivation of future health professionals,” the Ministry noted.
“It further aligns with ongoing efforts to strengthen the health sector by ensuring that critical human resources receive the needed support throughout their training.”
The Ministry expressed appreciation to President Mahama for delivering on his promise, and extended thanks to all stakeholders involved in ensuring the timely release and distribution of the funds.
It further assured the public of its dedication to working closely with training institutions to uphold standards in healthcare education and contribute to building a resilient, people-centered health system.
The allowance, which was a key commitment made by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama during the recent electioneering campaign, has now been fulfilled, with payments scheduled which begun today and continue through to next Friday.
