MarryRight Ghana Ltd., in collaboration with the Office of the Attorney General and the Registrar General’s Department, is set to host the second edition of the Marriage Governance Conference (MGC) – a national forum aimed at addressing the evolving legal and social frameworks surrounding marriage in Ghana.

Scheduled for Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the Ghana Shippers Authority in Accra, the one-day conference is expected to attract over 500 participants, including legal professionals, traditional and religious leaders, policy-makers, civil society actors, and the general public.

This year’s theme, “Legal Love, Recognized Rights: Rethinking Marriage Governance for a Future of Accountability, Digital Inclusion, and Cultural Harmony,” reflects the conference’s goal of fostering dialogue on marriage registration, rights, cultural practices, and the role of digital systems in strengthening accountability.

Former Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Hon. Betty Mould-Iddrisu, will chair the event, lending her expertise in legal reform and governance to guide deliberations.

The 2025 edition will feature three panel discussions and four expert presentations, focusing on controversial and contemporary issues including:

Panel Discussions:

  1. Who Owns the Dead Body? – Tackling disputes over funeral and burial rights in Ghana’s legal vs. customary frameworks.
  2. The Rise of Radio Family Courts – Exploring the public’s growing preference for on-air mediation over formal legal proceedings.
  3. Fake Marriage Documents – Examining emerging schemes in document forgery and proposing safeguards.

Expert Presentations:

  1. Protecting Co-Habitating Spouses – Legal gaps and social realities facing partners in informal unions.
  2. DNA Testing at Birth – Weighing the pros and cons of introducing mandatory DNA verification at childbirth.
  3. Mental Health in Marriage – Highlighting legal considerations when marital conflict intersects with mental health challenges.
  4. Child Support for Adults with Disabilities – Addressing overlooked legal and care obligations in Ghana’s current system.

MarryRight Ghana is extending a national invitation to Ghanaians from all walks of life, including youth leaders, digital innovators, students, and media practitioners, to join the conversation and help shape future marriage policies.

Participation is free, but advance registration is required due to limited space. Interested individuals can register or make enquiries via 059 988 4433 / 020 033 1312.

The Marriage Governance Conference promises not only legal insight but also a platform for influencing future policy direction on marriage governance in Ghana.
