Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, has secured an expansion of Türkiye’s scholarship programme to include sports-related disciplines, following a meeting with Mr. Abdulhadi Turus, President of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), in Ankara on August 18, 2025.
During the meeting, Mr. Turus outlined YTB’s international education initiatives, highlighting the Türkiye Scholarships, which since 2011 have supported more than 45,000 students worldwide. He revealed that in 2025 alone, 628 Ghanaian students applied for placements in areas such as agriculture, engineering, international trade, and economics.
He further explained that scholarship offers can be tailored to the development priorities of partner nations, with support including Turkish language training and postgraduate opportunities.
Hon. Adams praised YTB’s role in supporting Ghana’s human resource development, noting that the scholarships have produced professionals such as interpreters and technical experts who are vital to advancing bilateral trade and cooperation. He emphasised that Ghana Türkiye relations, established in 1958, continue to deepen through education and skills training.

The Minister also requested that scholarships be expanded to cover sports-related courses such as sports science, management, and recreation studies. He explained that under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, Ghana is prioritising the revival of school sports, and advanced training opportunities in Türkiye would play a key role in developing the next generation of sports professionals.
In response, YTB agreed to widen the scope of its scholarships to include sports-focused disciplines for Ghanaian students. Both parties concluded the meeting by reaffirming their commitment to strengthening educational and cultural cooperation while ensuring scholarship programmes align with Ghana’s national development goals.
