Ghana and Türkiye have set an ambitious target of achieving USD 2 billion in bilateral trade by 2030, following high-level discussions between Hon. Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, and Mr. Şekib Avdagiç, President of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, along with board members in Istanbul.

The talks reaffirmed the long-standing Ghana–Türkiye partnership, established in 1958, while identifying fresh opportunities for collaboration in trade, aviation, agriculture, and sports. Mr. Avdagiç commended Ghana’s political stability and investor-friendly climate, noting the steady growth of Turkish investments in the country. He revealed that Türkiye’s Trade Minister has tasked the Chamber with spearheading the $2 billion trade goal.

Hon. Adams welcomed the target and pointed to government programmes such as the Big Push Initiative and FEED Ghana as avenues for Turkish investors to participate under public-private partnership (PPP) arrangements. He also called for closer collaboration with Turkish Airlines to boost flight frequency to Accra and expand routes across Africa, stressing that aviation connectivity is critical to unlocking new trade and tourism opportunities.

On sports, the Minister highlighted Ghana’s expanding sports economy and urged Turkish businesses to support stadia modernisation, youth academies, and new infrastructure projects. He further encouraged Turkish football giants such as Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray to explore Ghana’s rich football talent pool.

Responding to concerns raised by Chamber board members over irrigation challenges, Hon. Adams assured that he would engage relevant authorities in Ghana to strengthen agricultural cooperation, particularly in irrigation and mechanisation.

The meeting ended with commitments to:
• Pursue the $2 billion trade target by 2030.
• Support aviation expansion between Ghana and Türkiye.
• Deepen investment in agriculture, irrigation, and sports development.

“Our engagement today reinforces Ghana’s readiness to provide an enabling environment for Turkish businesses,” Hon. Adams stated. “Together, we can achieve greater trade, stronger connectivity, and shared growth across key sectors.”
