Ghanaian film director and writer, Kofi Asamoah, has praised the Black Star Experience, but stressed the importance of consistency to ensure the initiative lives up to its promise.
Speaking on Starr Showbiz with Feeling Daddy on Saturday, September 13, Asamoah described the initiative as well-structured and inclusive, commending the involvement of creatives and industry stakeholders. He also applauded veteran highlife musician Rex Omar for his leadership role in the programme.
“As far as I’m concerned, so far so good. I see that a lot of work is going into it. Rex, Uncle Rex has been amazing so far. And I like the all-inclusive nature of it. They are involving as much creatives and as much creative stakeholders as possible,” He said.
The CEO of Kofas Media, however, cautioned that the Black Star Experience must go beyond its debut year and be sustained as a long-term programme. “I’m just hoping that most of the things they are set to do would be quite consistent and not just a thing for this year because it’s new. In the coming years as well, there should be some level of congruence and consistency in their activities and performance,” he added.
President John Dramani Mahama recently assured Ghanaians that the Black Star Experience, a cultural and tourism initiative, is set to officially take off, with foundational work already completed.
The Black Star Experience, described as the government’s flagship programme for culture, arts, and tourism, aims to position Ghana as a leading global destination. It is designed as a continuous calendar of activities highlighting entertainment, arts, and education throughout the year.
To spearhead the initiative, Ghanaian highlife musician and entrepreneur Rex Owusu Marfo, popularly known as Rex Omar, has been appointed as a Presidential Staffer for the Black Star Experience. The programme is also expected to redefine Ghanaian identity, attract foreign investments, create jobs, and boost tourism through year-round celebrations in the creative sector.
