The Ghana Law Society has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the leadership of nominated Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, as he prepares to officially assume the highest judicial office in the country.
A delegation led by Abraham Amaliba, a senior member of the association, paid a courtesy call on the CJ nominee to congratulate him on his nomination and commend his leadership since taking charge of the judiciary.
Amaliba noted that under Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, the judiciary has begun to assert itself with greater independence, a development that has been widely welcomed by the public.
“We are here to congratulate you for your sterling qualities that you have executed since you took over the reins of the judiciary. Ever since then, we have seen positives in the sense that the judiciary is beginning to assert itself and demonstrate independence. That is what Ghanaians have been craving for, and your leadership is giving hope to Ghanaians,” he said.
Amaliba further clarified that the Ghana Law Society is not a rival to any existing legal institution but a duly registered association under the Registrar General’s Department and recognized as a professional body of lawyers.
He stressed that the group seeks to work closely with the judiciary to strengthen the administration of justice.
“We want to assure you that this association is not coming to be a troublemaker, but rather to complement what the judiciary has been doing already. When our leadership is fully in place, we will support your administration to ensure that the judiciary in this country takes its rightful place,” he assured.
He revealed that the association has applied to the General Legal Council (GLC) for recognition and intends to return to engage further on the process.
According to him, the group’s primary goal is to become an integral partner in Ghana’s justice delivery system, contributing to making the judiciary one of the most respected across the continent.
Amaliba concluded by expressing optimism that Parliament will approve Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s nomination without difficulty, paving the way for him to formally assume office and continue reforms aimed at restoring public confidence in the courts.
