Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu, has cautioned flagbearer aspirants to be mindful of their language as campaigning intensifies ahead of the party’s January 31 presidential primaries.
Speaking to GHOne/Starr News, Mr. Osei-Owusu urged aspirants to focus on issues and communicate why they are the best choice for the party rather than resorting to personal attacks and inflammatory remarks.
“I am concerned about the messages of the aspirants,” he said. “But as much as possible, I want to stay independent. If I venture into commenting on who has said what, the likelihood that I will be accused of favouring A or B or overlooking C is likely to affect the integrity of my committee”
He appealed to all contenders to maintain decorum, saying, “I plead with every one of them to stay focused on why they should be the choice. Leave the voters with the information that will make them prefer you to the other. I think that’s all that matters.”
Mr. Osei-Owusu further assured party members and the general public that the committee remains committed to transparency and fairness throughout the election process.
“It’s been smooth, it’s been consistent and our policy position is at the end of it every contestant, every voter will be satisfied that the results are a reflection of their votes, nothing more,” he emphasized.
The NPP’s internal campaign has reached a fever pitch as aspirants tour the country to secure delegate support, with tensions reportedly rising among competing camps.
