President John Dramani Mahama visited the 37 Military Hospital’s Emergency Ward on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, to receive a briefing on the situation and meet with potential recruits injured during a tragic stampede at El-Wak Sports Stadium.
The stampede occurred earlier today, Wednesday, November 12 during the 2025/2026 military recruitment exercise when a surge of applicants breached security protocols and rushed the gates around 6:20 a.m., resulting in at least six deaths and numerous injuries.
Medical teams have rushed the injured to the 37 Military Hospital, where 12 cases are reported critical and five are currently in the ICU. The total number of casualties from the incident stands at 28.

In response to the tragedy, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has suspended the ongoing recruitment exercise.
The Air Force screening will resume on Thursday, November 13, followed by Navy applicants on Friday and Army hopefuls on Saturday. Authorities say the temporary halt will allow a full review of safety protocols to prevent further loss of life.

During his visit, President Mahama expressed concern for the injured and extended condolences to the families of the deceased.
The Ghana Armed Forces reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of all applicants and providing support to those affected.
