Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, has strongly dismissed allegations linking her to illegal mining activities, describing the claims as baseless, unfounded and malicious.

The allegations were made on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, during a discussion programme on Aluta 92.1 FM, hosted by Agyaba Kwaku.

On the program, one Mr. Wendell Yeboah, Head of Mobilisation at Democracy Hub, in a vituperative outburst, alleged that the Eastern and Ashanti Regional Minister, as well as some other government officials were involved in illegal mining.

However in a press statement issued on Tuesday, the Eastern Regional Minister said she had “never engaged in illegal mining” and did not own any mining concession in the Eastern Region or anywhere in Ghana.

“These claims are completely untrue. I categorically deny the allegations made against me,” she stated, adding that “as a minister responsible for a region battling illegal mining, I have always acted with integrity and in the best interest of the people.”

She urged the public to disregard the accusations, describing them as deliberate attempts to damage her reputation.

The Minister further reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the President’s efforts to end illegal mining and protect the water bodies, lands and forest reserves.

She is demanding an immediate retraction and apology from Mr. Yeboah and Aluta FM “Failure to do so will attract the necessary legal actions,” she warned.
