Three regions—Savannah, Oti, and Western North—are set to receive new regional hospitals as part of the government’s 2026 health agenda.
This was announced by Health Minister Mintah Akandoh during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, December 1, highlighting efforts to expand healthcare access in underserved areas.
The Minister revealed that the projects come with an allocation of 600 million Ghana cedis and form part of a broader push to strengthen the health sector.
“His Excellency promised the good people of this country that he was going to construct six regional hospitals in regions where there are none. Fortunately enough, in 2026 budget, we are going to begin the construction of three regional hospitals, namely the Savannah region, the Oti region, and the Western North region.”
In addition to the hospitals, primary health facilities will be upgraded with essential equipment to support the rollout of free primary health care next year.
Mr. Akandoh’s announcement, he said underscores the government’s commitment to bridging healthcare gaps and ensuring that basic medical services reach communities that have historically faced shortages in both infrastructure and resources.
