The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced plans to summon officials of the Israeli Embassy in Accra following the detention and deportation of Ghanaian travellers at Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport.
In a statement, the government said it would convey its displeasure “in the strongest possible terms” after seven Ghanaians were detained on Sunday, December 7, 2025, including four members of a parliamentary delegation.
The government rejected claims by Israeli authorities that the action was linked to alleged non-cooperation by Ghana’s Embassy in Tel Aviv, describing the justification as “totally untenable.”
According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, facts available show that Ghana’s mission has remained “responsive and compliant with international law.”
“The Government of Ghana considers the actions of the Israeli authorities as unfairly targeting Ghanaian travellers,” the statement said, adding that the humiliating treatment of its citizens was unacceptable.
The Foreign Ministry disclosed that Ghana is also considering “appropriate reciprocal action” in response to the incident, as it presses for accountability and respect for the rights of its nationals abroad.
