The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has condemned the abuse of a six-year-old child at Asamankese who was reportedly mistreated due to bed-wetting.
The Ministry described the incident as “a grave failure of care” and called for a thorough investigation by the relevant authorities.
In a statement, the Ministry stressed that “no child should ever be punished, humiliated, or harmed for circumstances beyond their control. Bed-wetting is not a crime, an act of defiance, or moral failing; it is a health and developmental issue that requires care, patience, and appropriate professional support, not violence or cruelty.”
The Ministry urged parents and caregivers to seek professional guidance when addressing childhood developmental challenges and emphasized the importance of creating safe environments where children can grow without fear.
Authorities have been called upon to ensure justice while prioritizing the physical and psychological well-being of the child.
Members of the public are encouraged to report suspected abuse cases through the Domestic Violence Call Centre or at the nearest police station.
The Ministry concluded that “every child has the right to safety, dignity, and compassionate care always, whether at home, in school, or in any care setting,” highlighting society’s shared responsibility to protect children from harm.
