FIFA has announced a 50% increase in prize money for the 2026 World Cup following a council meeting held on Wednesday, December 17, in Doha, Qatar.
The boost means the eventual champions will pocket a record $50 million, while runners-up will receive $33 million. All participating teams will also get $1.5 million to cover preparation costs, ensuring a minimum payout of $10.5 million.

- 5th–8th Place: $19 million
- 9th–16th Place: $15 million

Each team will receive $1.5 million for preparation, reinforcing FIFA’s commitment to supporting the global football community and promoting youth development.
“The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be groundbreaking in terms of its financial contribution to the global football community,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
The 2026 tournament will be jointly hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico, featuring 48 teams. The World Cup will kick off on June 11, 2026, in Mexico City, Mexico, and conclude on July 19, 2026, in New Jersey, US.
