The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has called on stakeholders to exercise restraint following concerns raised by the Public Utilities Workers’ Union (PUWU) over the selection of a transaction advisor for Private Sector Participation (PSP) in the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The statement comes after PUWU-TUC, Ghana, expressed alarm over what it described as a rushed government move toward PSP in ECG.
In a statement, the Ministry clarified, “Selection of a transaction advisor is a technical and procedural step to properly structure the PSP framework and does not in any way constitute or imply an outright sale of ECG.”
Led by Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor (MP), the Ministry emphasized that it has maintained open and constructive dialogue with PUWU and will continue to engage the union in good faith to address concerns.
Amid fears that the appointment of a transaction advisor could signal moves toward privatization, the Ministry stressed that the PSP initiative is focused on deploying private sector expertise to improve specific operational areas, not on divesting or selling the company.
The Ministry reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring a reliable and sustainable power sector while protecting the interests of ECG workers.
