Former Member of Parliament for Anyaa–Sowutuom, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has criticised the Ministry of Transport over what he describes as a lack of visible leadership and public communication amid worsening transport challenges nationwide.
Speaking on GHToday with Lily Mohammed on Monday, January 19, Dr Kissi questioned the apparent silence of the transport minister at a time when commuters across the country are grappling with serious transportation difficulties.
“I don’t think we have a transport minister,” he said, arguing that a single public appearance or statement is insufficient given the scale and urgency of the problems facing the sector.
Dr Kissi also drew attention to the poor condition of roads in parts of the Northern Region, particularly around Chereponi, describing them as dusty and badly deteriorated.
He said his comments were intended to highlight the need for urgent government intervention to address road infrastructure challenges in those areas.
He stressed that effective leadership goes beyond infrastructure development and must include consistent communication with the public, especially during periods of crisis.
According to him, if the minister is unable to engage directly with the public, the Ministry’s public relations unit should step in to provide regular updates and reassurance.
Dr Kissi noted that the absence of clear and timely communication has contributed to growing frustration and uncertainty among Ghanaians, and urged the Ministry of Transport to become more visible, responsive and engaged with the concerns of commuters.
