The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has formally selected Baba Ali Yussif as its parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
In a statement on Monday, February 9, 2026 and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party said the decision was reached after “extensive consultations” by its National Executive Committee (NEC) with key stakeholders to settle on a consensus candidate.
According to the statement, the NEC set up a Candidate Search Committee chaired by former NPP General Secretary, John Boadu, to engage stakeholders in the constituency and the Greater Accra Region.
The party said after the engagements, the committee “unanimously recommended Baba Ali Yussif, the current Constituency Secretary of the Party, as the most suitable candidate.”
It added that the recommendation was adopted at an expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting and a Delegates Conference held in the constituency on Sunday, February 8, 2026, where delegates “unanimously acclaimed” him as the party’s candidate.
The NPP described Baba Ali Yussif as “a seasoned educator” and “one of the longest-serving Constituency Secretaries in the Greater Accra Region,” as well as “a grassroots mobiliser, and a committed development advocate.”
The party urged its members and supporters to unite behind him ahead of the polls, stating that he represents the party’s “best opportunity to secure victory in the forthcoming by-election.”
The NPP also appealed to residents of Ayawaso East to vote for him, saying it wants to “restore hope, effective representation, and prosperity to the Constituency.”
