President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated the Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy (PAGE), describing it as a critical step towards resetting Ghana’s economic governance framework and restoring macroeconomic stability.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Accra, President Mahama tasked members of PAGE to provide frank, independent and evidence-based counsel to help steer the country through its current economic challenges.

“I thank each of you for accepting the call to serve our country at a critical moment in Ghana’s economic journey. Your willingness to contribute your time, experience, and intellect to the national cause reflects a deep commitment to public service and to the future of our republic,” he said.

He explained that the mandate of PAGE is clearly defined and significant.

“The mandate of PAGE, as outlined in your letters of appointment and accompanying public release, is both clear and consequential. You are expected to provide strategic counsel on macroeconomic management, fiscal consolidation, debt sustainability, and the coherence between fiscal and monetary policy,” President Mahama stated.

The President noted that PAGE will serve as a direct advisory body to the Presidency, submitting memoranda, briefs and strategic reviews when required, adding that its recommendations must be anchored in the long-term national interest.

He further explained that PAGE, which existed during the late President John Evans Atta-Mills’ administration and his previous tenure, has been reconstituted and expanded to reflect the growing complexity of Ghana’s economy.

He added that the Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who is a member of PAGE, will chair meetings in his absence.

President Mahama said PAGE will operate alongside the Economic Policy Coordinating Committee (EPCC), jointly chaired by the Minister for Finance and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, to ensure coordination and efficiency in economic governance.
