President John Dramani Mahama has announced the commencement of Phase Two of the Ridge Hospital project, a major initiative aimed at expanding bed capacity and improving healthcare service delivery.
Speaking on Friday, February 27, during the State of the Nation Address, the President emphasized that the expansion is part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system and ensure patients in emergencies are not turned away.
“Phase Two of Ridge Hospital will increase the number of beds and improve service delivery, allowing the facility to manage more patients effectively,” President Mahama said.
The project complements the government’s plan to fully implement free primary healthcare this year, alongside scaling up the Ghana Medical Trust Fund and expanding access to specialised services, including advanced cardiac care at key hospitals in Tamale, Korle Bu, and Komfo Anokye.
President Mahama reiterated that healthcare facilities must treat all patients facing medical emergencies, stressing that “you do not need to have a comfortable bed to save a patient. No patient must be turned away from any health facility they report to.”
The Ridge Hospital Phase Two project is expected to relieve pressure on existing infrastructure, enhance emergency response capacity, and reduce the need for overseas referrals, positioning Ghana as a hub for specialised care in the sub-region.
