Government has cleared all outstanding book and research allowance arrears for members of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association (CETAG), bringing an end to a prolonged and recurring strike that had disrupted academic activities across the nation’s colleges of education.
The strike, which had persisted for several weeks, was sparked by delays in the payment of allowances, including disputed claims for 2023.
CETAG members had repeatedly taken industrial action, calling on the government to settle the arrears to ensure they received their due entitlements.
Addressing the Government Assurances Committee, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, confirmed that the government had fully paid all outstanding arrears.
He stated that the clearance includes the previously disputed 2023 allowances, effectively resolving the dispute that had caused the disruption.
The protracted strike had affected teaching and learning across the country’s colleges of education, with students facing interrupted lectures and delayed academic schedules.
With the arrears now cleared, normal academic activities are expected to resume, providing relief to both teachers and students alike.
