Twenty-eight Ghanaian nationals, mostly young people, who fell victim to a sophisticated human trafficking syndicate in Côte d’Ivoire have been rescued and repatriated to Ghana following a joint security operation.
In a statement dated Sunday, May 10, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the operation was carried out by security operatives together with officials from the Embassy of Ghana in Abidjan.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform the general public that twenty-eight (28) Ghanaian nationals, predominantly youth, who were victims of a sophisticated human trafficking network have been rescued and repatriated to Ghana from Côte d’Ivoire,” the statement said.
According to the Ministry, the victims arrived safely in Ghana on Saturday and are currently assisting authorities with ongoing investigations into the trafficking network.
“The rescued human trafficking victims are safely in Ghana and currently assisting with further investigations,” the Ministry added.
Government also commended the Ivorian authorities for their cooperation during the rescue operation.
The Ministry further cautioned Ghanaians to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to trafficking schemes disguised as employment and travel opportunities abroad.
“The Ministry, therefore, urges the public to be conscious of the dangers associated with engaging unlicensed recruitment agencies which promise travel and job opportunities,” it stated.
It advised the public to verify the legitimacy of recruitment advertisements and offers with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment Relations, as well as Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad.
Meanwhile, the government assured the public of its commitment to dismantling trafficking networks and prosecuting those behind the illegal operations.
The Ministry reaffirmed that the welfare and protection of Ghanaians remain a top national priority.
