The National Health Insurance Authority has announced a temporary suspension of three pharmacies from participating in Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme following the detection of alleged irregularities during a routine claims verification exercise.
In a notice signed by the Chief Executive of the NHIA, Doctor Victor Asare Bampoe, the Authority stated, as part of the suspension, the affected pharmacies are prohibited from providing services or dispensing medicines until further notice.
The NHIA named the affected facilities as Deldem Pharma Limited, located at Iron City in Weija; Paramedica Pharmacy, located at Guggisberg Avenue in Ablekuma; and Desh Chemist, located at Amasaman along Odumase High Street.
The suspensions were triggered by a routine claims verification exercise conducted by the Authority, which identified material irregularities in claims and service transactions associated with the three facilities.
The NHIA stated that these irregularities have raised a reasonable suspicion of fraud and abuse under the NHIS Provider Service Agreement.
The suspension, according to the NHIA’s release, takes effect from Thursday, May 14, 2026.
The three pharmacies are not permitted to provide services or dispense medicines under the National Health Insurance Scheme during the suspension period.
Members of the NHIS requiring pharmaceutical services have been urged to seek care from other accredited NHIS providers across the country.
The Authority in the release also warned all credentialed healthcare providers, stating that it will not tolerate fraudulent or abusive practices that undermine the sustainability of the NHIS and may deprive members of quality healthcare services.
