The police confirmed in a press release that a combined total of 1,000 live cartridges were seized in the operations, which were aimed at maintaining peace and security in the area.
According to the police, the first operation which involved a night operational patrol team that was acting on intelligence at a security checkpoint in Nkwanta, intercepted a 66-seater MGI passenger bus with registration number AS 248-P which was carrying 750 live J/G cartridges which was concealed in a black polythene bag containing three brown boxes, with each box packed with 250 rounds.

In a separate incident on the same day, a joint Police and Military team engaged in a pursuit of a suspect riding a motorbike.
During the chase, a box fell from the suspect’s motorbike, which was recovered by the security team.
An inspection of the dropped box revealed 250 rounds of ammunition, consisting of 125 AA cartridges and 125 BB cartridges. Although the unidentified rider managed to escape the scene, preliminary investigations swiftly led to the arrest of a second suspect, 57-year-old, Christian Kwasi Alonise.
