The Kibi School for the Deaf is appealing for more support from individuals, corporate organizations, and philanthropists to help address a number of infrastructure and educational challenges affecting the institution.
Established in 1975 with just 10 students, the school has grown significantly over the years and currently caters for 182 learners from kindergarten to junior high school level.
The institution provides both academic and vocational education to children with hearing impairments.
However, the school continues to grapple with several pressing needs, including the absence of a urinal facility, a modern signpost, inadequate teachers’ accommodation, and a lack of projectors to support teaching and learning in classrooms.
“Kibi School for the Deaf faces numerous infrastructure challenges. It lacks a urinal facility, a modern signpost, adequate teacher’s accommodation, and a projector to enhance teaching and learning.
The majority of the staff are staying outside and these people need 24-hour monitoring and supervision. So we are appealing to benevolent organisations to come to our aid to put up a staff bungalow for the staff” said Emmanuel Abiw, Headteacher.
The Headteacher Emmanuel Abiw also identified the lack of a printer as a major challenge, noting that it affects the school’s ability to print examination materials and other essential documents.

Management further revealed that occasional delays in the government’s supply of food items create anxiety and uncertainty for both staff and students.
“We need a photocopier that we can use to print the question papers for them because they are writing the same exam with the hearing counterparts. If not, there will be a gap. But if we have all these resources, there is nothing like disability to be able to do that.We have to squeeze it and go outside to print and it’s very costly. Our teaching and learning, because as soon as we need the printout, we are not able to get it. ( They have to travel all the way to town.” The headteacher explained.
Despite its challenges, the school has maintained an average pass rate of 65 percent in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), with management expressing optimism about improving the school’s performance in this year’s examinations.
In a move to support the institution, Tako God’s Resources Limited, through its owner King Kojo Mohammed, on Wednesday June 3, 2026 donated a large quantity of food items, including bags of maize, wheat, sugar, beans in addition to bags of sachet water, assorted soft drinks and toiletries to help improve food security for the students.
The company also renovated a deteriorated toilet facility used by female students and presented a cheque for GH¢10,000 to support the school’s operations.
Nana Adu Danso Gershon,Manager of Tako God’s Resources limited assured continuos support for the school and the vulnerable in society.
He said the company has constructed machenized boreholes in many communities, pays fees of brilliant but needy students ,paid medical bills of patients at the hospital, and donated to inmates at Koforidua and Kumasi prisons.
