The High Court in Accra has given a final extension to lawyers for the former National Signals Bureau Director General, Kwabena Adu-Boahen to conclude their cross-examination of the 4th Prosecution Witness, paving way for the prosecution to close its case.

The court, presided over by Justice Francis Apangabonu Achibonga, a Justice of the Court of Appeal who is sitting with additional responsibility as a High Court judge, adjourned adjourned proceedings to tomorrow, September 2, for lead counsel, Samuel Atta Akyea, to conclude.

This follows a series of extensions granted to the defence with Tuesday sitting expected to be the last day.

On July 22, 2026, after the witness had been in the box for about seven weeks, the court said it would indulge counsel with one additional day.

But, Counsel prayed for four days but was granted three.

After those three days, counsel again prayed for four days. The court granted two additional days.

Upon expiration of that deadline, counsel made another request for four days. The court again indulged him and granted three days, adjourning the case to 11th, 13th and 17th August. Due to the legal vacation, the case could not be heard and was adjourned to August 25.

On August 25, the court indicated it had two days left for the matter. Counsel prayed for four days, but the court granted three days – August 26, 27 and September 1, 2026.

At the close of proceedings on Tuesday (today), Mr. Atta Akyea for the fourth time asked for one final day. The Deputy Attorney-General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, opposed the request, but the court obliged.

The court was, however, emphatic that counsel will have only three hours tomorrow, after which he will be deemed to have concluded his cross-examination whether he is done or not. Counsel agreed.

Once cross-examination is concluded tomorrow, the prosecution is expected to close its case.

Former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahen, his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng, and Advantage Solutions Limited are standing trial on 11 counts.

The charges include stealing, defrauding by false pretences, wilfully causing financial loss to the state, using public office for private profit, obtaining public property by false statements, conspiracy and money laundering, all in relation to GH¢49.1 million, allegedly meant for the procurement of a cyber defence system.

The prosecution alleges that the amount, which was government funds held in a state agency’s account, was diverted into private accounts linked to the accused and used to acquire luxury properties and vehicles.

An amount of GH¢49.1 million was allegedly transferred to ISC Holdings, the Israeli company contracted to supply the system, with no further payments made.

All accused persons have pleaded not guilty.
