Accra Academy has made history by qualifying for the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) Grand Finale for the first time since the school began participating in the prestigious academic competition.
The Accra-based school secured the historic qualification after winning a fiercely contested semi-final on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
They finished the contest with 54 points, beating Bright Senior High School, which recorded 44 points, and Achimota School, which finished with 43 points.
The contest remained closely fought across the various rounds, with all three schools demonstrating strong subject knowledge, speed and accuracy.
Achimota School mounted a spirited challenge, while Bright SHS also kept the competition tight.
Accra Academy, however, pulled clear in the closing stages to finish top and secure its place in the ultimate contest.
The qualification marks a significant milestone for the school, which has competed in the NSMQ for several years but had never previously reached the Grand Finale.
Accra Academy will now face St. Augustine’s College and Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC) in the Grand Finale, where the 2026 NSMQ champion will be crowned.
The historic appearance gives the “Bleoo” boys an opportunity to compete for the national title and potentially cap their breakthrough campaign with an overall championship.
