The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has commenced a preliminary investigation into a document circulating in the media purporting to be a memorandum from Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa and Deputy Minority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei, addressed to Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam/Adoagyiri and Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh,
According to the OSP’s public notice dated 4 September 2026, the document alleges that Appiagyei returned an amount of GH¢70,000 that had been allocated to her as an advance from the Majority Chief Whip.
The funds were said to relate to the Appointments Committee of Parliament’s vetting of two nominees for ministerial positions and three nominees to the Supreme Court.
The OSP stated that it has taken note of the document in light of the constitutional importance of the Appointments Committee and the need to safeguard the integrity of the vetting process.
The notice further observed that the document appears to suggest Appiagyei cast doubt on the source of the alleged funds and indicated that the arrangement bore the hallmarks of extortion of the nominees.
“Given the constitutional importance of the Appointments Committee of Parliament and the need to safeguard the integrity of the vetting process…the OSP has commenced preliminary investigation into the veracity of the document, the source of the alleged funds, and the purpose of the alleged funds,” the statement said.
The OSP has formally invited Hon. Patricia Appiagyei to attend its offices and assist with the preliminary investigation.
The Office emphasised that it is actively investigating all extortion allegations involving Members of Parliament.
The Deputy Minority Leader had in the viral Memo claimed that she returned an amount of GHC 70,000, which had been sent to her by the Majority Chief.
