The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed that promotion-related salary adjustments and arrears have been paid to 56,003 teachers.
In a release dated 16 October 2026 and signed by Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, management stated that the payments comprise 49,725 teachers who received their adjusted salaries together with arrears dating from 1 January 2026 on 15 October 2026, and an additional 6,278 teachers who were paid in September 2026.
Outstanding cases have already been fully processed and are awaiting the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) to open its portal for validation and payment.
“The Controller’s system has been closed since 7 October to process supplementary payments and October salaries. Once the CAGD reopens the system, the remaining payments will be completed,” the statement assured.
GES expressed appreciation to all stakeholders for their support, particularly the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, teacher unions, and the CAGD.
The payment is in line with promises GES gave pre-tertiary teachers who embarked on strike for two weeks.
