Ghana is set to supply qualified nurses and teachers to the United States Virgin Islands under a proposed bilateral agreement aimed at addressing critical staffing needs in the territory’s healthcare and education sectors.

The arrangement was discussed during a meeting between a high-level Ghanaian delegation and senior officials of the US Virgin Islands Government at Government House on St Thomas.

The Ghanaian delegation, representing the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Job Creation and the Office of the President, was led by Gilbert Attipoe, a Presidential Aide at the Office of the Chief of Staff.

Other members included Bediako Kwabena Acheampong, Technical Coordinator, and Samuel Kodom, Administrator and Executive Aide to the Minister of Labour, Employment and Job Creation.

Discussions centred on establishing a structured bilateral recruitment framework to facilitate the deployment of qualified Ghanaian nurses and teachers to fill critical vacancies across the US Virgin Islands.

The initiative supports efforts by the territory’s Governor, Albert Bryan Jr, to strengthen its healthcare and education sectors while creating international employment opportunities for Ghanaian professionals.

During the meeting, US Virgin Islands Commissioner of Labour, Dr Gary Molloy, announced that a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is expected to be signed in Ghana in November by the Minister of Labour, Employment and Job Creation, Emmanuel Agyekum.

The signing is expected to formalise the agreement and establish the framework for cooperation between the two sides.

The proposed partnership forms part of efforts by the Ghanaian government to expand its international partnerships while connecting qualified Ghanaian professionals with employment opportunities abroad.
