Former Eastern Regional Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Darlas Ampomah Williams, has urged party delegates across the Eastern Region, particularly in the Kwahu area, to be mindful of aspirants he accuses of seeking executive positions to target Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).

He says constituency executives must maintain cordial working relationships with government appointees to enable them to perform their duties and support President John Dramani Mahama’s development agenda.

“We want peaceful atmosphere for MMDCEs to work. We don’t need people who want to become executives to fight MMDCEs.” He stated.

Speaking on Agoo FM in Nkawkaw, Mr Ampomah Williams alleged that some aspirants intend to use the constituency executive positions to hound and push government appointees out of office.

He cautioned delegates against supporting such candidates whose intentions, he claimed, are driven by personal interest and hostility rather than the collective interest of the party.

According to him, MMDCEs need peace of mind and cooperation from constituency executives to effectively discharge their responsibilities and implement government policies at the local level.

The Kwahu area has a history of tensions between party executives and government appointees. In 2015, the District Chief Executive in Kwahu South Joseph Omari pepper-sprayed party executives during a chaotic meeting arising from a prolonged disagreement.

Mr Ampomah Williams, who currently serves as Communications Director of the National Identification Authority (NIA), said such incidents should not be repeated.

He called for unity, mutual respect and cooperation between constituency executives and MMDCEs after the NDC’s constituency elections scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026.

He stressed that the elections should strengthen the party’s grassroots structures rather than create divisions that could undermine the work of government appointees and the party’s broader development objectives.

Meanwhile, an Aspiring Eastern Regional Communications Officer of the NDC, Prince Henry, has also urged delegates to elect hardworking and committed executives who have demonstrated dedication to the party.

He says strong constituencies are key to building a stronger Eastern Region and improving the party’s performance ahead of the 2028 general elections.

31 out of the Eastern Region’s 33 constituencies are scheduled to elect their executives on Saturday, October 24, 2026, with the remaining two expected to hold their conferences on Sunday, October 25.
