The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has called on the Chief of Defence Staff to take disciplinary action against Lieutenant Albert Goh of the Ghana Armed Forces over allegations of intimidation and harassment of residents in the Ningo Prampram constituency.
Mr George, who is also the Member of Parliament for the area, accused the officer of leading a group of heavily armed soldiers into the constituency, where they allegedly seized several trucks belonging to residents without any lawful authority.
He further claimed that the soldiers, acting on the lieutenant’s instructions, cocked their weapons at a police commander who attempted to intervene.
Addressing aggrieved residents, the minister strongly condemned the alleged conduct.
He issued a stern warning that any military personnel who return to Ningo Prampram to intimidate or brutalise residents would be held accountable.
“Any soldier who comes to Ningo Prampram to come and brutalise the people of Ningo Prampram again, you will face the law of the streets,” Mr George said.
“Because it means you have breached your oath as a soldier.”
Turning directly to the officer, he stated:
“Albert Goh who came here yesterday with the men. This is a warning to you. It should be your last time because you are a disgrace to the Ghana Armed Forces. Albert Goh, your officer number, your Ghana Army number is 5666.
“And I’m saying that Lieutenant Albert Goh, you are a disgrace to the uniform that you wear. And I expect the Chief of Defence Staff, the CDS, to dismiss you from the Armed Forces for bringing this disgrace to the army.”
Mr George described the alleged actions as “akin to armed robbery,” accusing the officer of taking weapons from the Ghana Armed Forces armoury, seizing citizens’ trucks without authority, and driving one of the vehicles for two weeks.
